The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is designed to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are capable of creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. It encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who are able to recognize the value of diverse perspectives.
The IBDP at Atlas American School of Malaga provides a challenging, internationally focused and balanced educational experience. The programme is designed to equip students with the academic skills necessary for university study, further education, and their chosen profession. Additionally, the programme supports the development of the values and life skills necessary for a fulfilled and purposeful life through the development and application of knowledge in real-life contexts.
The IBDP is a rigorous 2-year program. Students study the “core” subjects of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), as well as six subjects from distinct areas of knowledge, including two languages, one subject from Individuals and Societies, one science, one mathematics subject, and one subject from the arts or another subject from one of the other groups.
Three subjects are studied at Higher Level (HL), providing in-depth development of subject-specific knowledge and the skills needed to pursue their chosen course of study. The other three subjects are studied at Standard Level (SL) to provide breadth of study. Each subject is graded on a scale of 1-7, giving a total of 42 points for 6 subjects. An additional 3 points are available for the Core, making the IB Diploma 45 points.
